What is the NZ Freestyle Kayak Series?
The NZ Freestyle Kayak Series encompasses four events throughout New Zealand over the summer season.
The aim of the NZFKS is to provide an opportunity for kayakers to participate in a fun social environment where the emphasis is on giving things a go. Each event includes fun and semi-competitive events and past events have included events like pairs ball-racing, downriver freestyle, freestyle, surf competitions, slalom races, rescue relays, teams race and much more.
Each event of the NZFKS will have a feature competition that will award points towards the title of NZFKS Champion. Points are awarded in relation to final placings and also for participation.
What categories are there?
- Open Mens -
- Open Womens -
- Junior Mens – 18 years and under
- Junior Womens – 18 years and under
- Veteran Mens – 35 years and over.
- Veteran Womens – 35 years and over.
How do the points work?
All entrants in the feature event will receive a minimum of 50 points, placing points will be awarded for 1st -5th positions in each division.
1st Place = 100 points,
2nd Place = 95 points,
3rd place = 90 points,
4th place = 85 points,
5th place = 80 points.
For example;
- Enter one event and place 1st you would receive 100 points.
- Enter two events and place 2nd in one and 7th in the other you would receive 145 points.
- Enter three events and place 5th in one event and outside the tep ten in the others you would receive 180 points.
- Enter four events and do not place at any event. You will still receive 200 points.
Where are the events held?
Events are held at a variety of locations and features including; natural and modified river beds, swimming pools and beaches.
Who organises the events?
The series is organised by EYE4ADVENTURE, based in Alexandra. Each individual events is run independently.
- The Bliss-Stick Kayak Festival aka “BlissFest” is organised by Amateur Athletes Otago Incorporated (AAO).
- The NZ Pyranha Tekapo Throwdown is organised by EYE4ADVENTURE .
- Xmas @ Kaituna is organised by EYE4ADVENTURE.
- FJ @ FJ is organised by the NZ Freestyle Kayak Association.
